MARA KORKOLA

Elissa Cristall Gallery is pleased to present an online exhibition by Mara Korkola, recognized for her captivating works that compress worlds of information into compact frames. On exhibit are 10 paintings of Korkola’s signature nighttime cityscapes and intimate landscapes of the west coast. Korkola’s latest work documents her travels from Vancouver to the Gulf Islands to the beaches of Tofino on the western edge of British Columbia.

“Mara Korkola’s paintings come alive through her ability to capture both delicate and startling variations in light. Her paintings span the full range of our observable spectrum: plumbing the darkness of night to the lightness of day. The night paintings are executed using bright, pure colours surrounded by the deepest blacks. They are shimmering, twinkling studies of high contrast. The landscapes at dawn and dusk fall somewhere in-between, focusing on that fleeting moment when day fades to night or night becomes day.” – Christine Redfern
