We are pleased to present Amanda Reeves’ third solo exhibition with the Elissa Cristall Gallery. In her new series Reeves creates 24″ x 24″ squares which stand alone or hang brilliantly together whether they are placed horizontally or vertically.
The rich and tempered colour tones lend each of these new works its own personality. The apparent simplicity of these paintings belies the subtle intricacies of palette and composition. Reeves use of tonal shifts and varying sizes of the shapes create overlapping and integrated layers of space. The precise rendering of each shape contradicts her free-hand technique as each painting offers a pristine surface that is unmarked by brush or hand.
Amanda Reeves graduated with honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design University in 2005, and has participated in numerous exhibitions. She was finalist in the 2008 RBC Canadian Painting Competition and her work is in the collections of the Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada, Medcan and Cenovus Energy and private collections. Reeves currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA.
